Frequently asked questions

When can I get my hands on Shepton Hill lamb?

Great question, and the honest answer is: our lamb is not unlimited. We process our lambs in runs of 20, at the moment. That's the reality of working with a small butcher who does it properly rather than a factory that does it fast.

For this season's lambs, that means availability is genuinely limited and once a run sells out, you're waiting on the next one. The best way to not miss out is to jump on our First Cut list. You'll receive an email that let's you know when the next run opens - and yes, it goes fast.

How does the lamb come packaged? Do I need to buy a whole animal?

Nope - no need to own a chest freezer the size of a small sedan. Shepton Hill lamb comes cut and portioned for two people, vacuum sealed and ready to go. We sell our lamb in whole, 1/2 and 1/4s. You're getting real, paddock-to-plate lamb without having to commit to 25kg of it or figure out what to do with a whole carcass. Just good lamb, in a size that actually fits in a normal human's life.

When will I get my order?

Generally, allow around two weeks from purchase to delivery - that's the reality of doing this properly rather than pulling something out of a cold room and slapping a label on it.

Here's how it works: lambs go to the abattoir on Monday or Tuesday, hang until they're ready, then butchered, and heads to our transport partner on Tuesday. From there, delivery times by state are roughly:

  • VIC: Thursday-Friday
  • NSW: Friday-Saturday (Following Monday for some of NSW)
  • QLD & SA: Saturday-Monday

The occasional delay does happen - extreme heat or where lambs are at can push things out by a week or so. We'd rather tell you that upfront than promise a date and then backpedal. If your order is running behind, you'll hear from us.

Is the lamb halal?

No - our lamb is not halal certified. We process through a small local abattoir rather than a certified halal facility, and we'd rather be upfront about that than leave you guessing.

If halal is important to you, there are some great Australian farms that do offer certified halal lamb - a quick search should point you in the right direction.

How much does shipping cost?

Nothing - delivery is on us. It's included in the price of your order.

Does the lamb arrive fresh or frozen?

Fresh. We currently deliver to VIC, NSW, QLD, and SA - all arriving chilled and ready to go straight into your fridge or freezer.

As we expand to WA, NT, and Tasmania, orders to those states will likely arrive frozen due to the distances involved. We'll make sure that's clear when those regions open up.
